WHAT IS CHEMICAL ENGINEERING?
Chemical engineering is a bridge connecting chemistry (chemical reactions in a test tube) to the real world outside laboratory. Chemical engineering is knowledge of processes and equipment in industrial systems, and the ability to design and supervise the operation of industrial systems. Chemical engineers find technical methods for the conversion of new raw materials into useful products, designing and improving new products and increasing the laboratory scale of processes to an industrial scale. For this purpose, based on knowledge of physical, chemical and biological phenomena, they apply engineering principles to invent, design, develop and implement technologies, design equipment, industrial installations and control processes, modernize and optimize the conditions (parameters) of already existing processes, taking into account environmental protection and industrial safety.
WHERE CAN CHEMICAL ENGINEERS WORK?
Chemical Engineering makes it possible to achieve many attractive professional careers in the country and abroad in small and large companies with a wide range of activities. Chemical engineers are one of the best-paid professions in the world. Our graduates are specialists needed in a wide range of industries including chemical, rubber, food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, refining, natural gas treatment, energy and heating, wastewater treatment plants, process equipment construction, design offices, consulting companies, environmental control services, innovative own firms and also in laboratories and research institutes.
WHAT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS WILL STUDENTS GAIN DURING THEIR STUDIES?
Students of Chemical Engineering will acquire knowledge and skills in various fields. You will have universal technical knowledge in chemistry, physics, mathematics, biochemistry, mechanics, technology, material engineering and computer science as also the basics of economics, management, safety, health and environmental protection. You will acquire a wide range of skills such as the ability to design products, apparatus, processes and technological systems (e.g. manufacture of chemicals and pharmaceuticals, processing of polymers and food products, energy production, processing of oil and gas, environmental protection) including the latest achievements in the field of computer-aided design. Our graduates possess skills in preparing technical documentation, engineering analysis and management, intellectual property aspects and they have the appropriate qualifications to participate in research and development projects focused on the needs of the industry.
WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE BACHELOR’S STUDY IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING IN SZCZECIN?
Our Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering of the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin continues the long-term tradition of modern scientific development and teaching activities of the Chemistry Faculty of School of Engineering in Szczecin (1947) and Technical University of Szczecin (1955). Today, Chemical Engineering in our Faculty is the 3rd best chemical engineering study in Poland and our University is one of the most innovative universities in the country (1st place in the Innovation category, “Perspectives” ranking 2019). The high quality of education is also confirmed by the qualification of Chemical Engineering in the Shanghai ranking.
All our Chemical Engineering courses are developed according to American standards of education and they are conducted by competent and qualified scientific and didactic staff. The theoretical and practical classes coincide with the research carried out by our staff and collaborations with important industrial partners in Poland and abroad e.g. Synthos S.A., Grupa Azoty, Bridgestone, DGS, Fosfan S.A., Habia Cable BASF, Sika, Ashland, Farad Power Inc., Orafol Europe GmbH and many others. During studies you will have access to modern well-equipped laboratories and the latest simulation and process optimization software. Every year, huge funds are invested in the reconstruction of the Faculty’s laboratories, including student and research laboratories, computer laboratories and lecture halls. Moreover, you will be in direct contact with academic teachers and realize own scientific interests in Student Scientific Groups. You will also have the opportunity to cooperate with scientists as part of research projects financed by external sources.
Szczecin, the vibrant capital of the West Pomeranian province located on the Odra river, is a modern large port city with a fascinating history, called the Paris of the North or the City of Greenery. Our city has a unique location: a few kilometres from the border with Germany, ca. 140 km from Berlin, ca. 90 km from the Baltic Sea coast, ca. 100 km from the ferry terminal in Świnoujście and ca. 40 km from the international airport (Port Lotniczy Szczecin Goleniów). Szczecin offers many cultural and sports activities – we have Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle, Solidarity Square, philharmonic, opera, theaters, museums and cinemas (with the Pionier - the oldest cinema in the world), yacht marines, lakes, golf pole and large green areas. So, Szczecin can be the perfect city for you to study in.
